CRICKET - THE STREAK. The longest winning streak in cricket history was eleven games, achieved by the West Indies from 1983 to 1985. In October 1999 in Zimbabwe, the Australian team led by Steve Waugh, started an unbroken run of wins that didn't end until March 2001 in India after they had won sixteen consecutive tests. Fittingly, the team Australia beat to equal and then break it was the West Indies. To achieve so many unbroken wins, in a game where weather can play such a part and where the draw is commonplace, is freakish!

During the streak, there were fantastic individual performances by all the major players including:

Justin Langer 1174 runs, Steve Waugh 1063 runs including 5 centuries, Michael Slater 1031 runs, Mark Waugh 861 runs, Ricky Ponting 845 runs, Glenn McGrath 76 wickets including his 300th Test wicket and a hat-trick, Shane Warne 46 wickets including his 356th (surpassing Dennis Lillee's Australian record).

And there were two debutantes...Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee.

Gilchrist scored 992 runs and took 69 dismissals as wicketkeeper, but he was also pivotal in winning two matches with swashbuckling batting performances in Hobart and Mumbai.

Brett Lee came into the side with immediate success taking eight wickets in his first match and providing raw speed that Australia needed.

CRICKET - THE STREAK, relives the great moments from the sixteen tests as well as talking to all the main participants. It examines why the team was so successful, discusses its place in history and poses the question, can any team ever match this performance in the future?
